About Emma.
I grew up near St Breock, coming from a well known Wadebridge family - my grandad was a teacher, and my dad was a local paramedic - so whenever I’m home, I can’t go far without being recognised. It keeps me on my best behaviour.
Although I now work in finance and have lived all over the world, Cornwall has always been home. Burrow Cott is my little anchor, and I currently divide my time between London, my smallholding in Kent, and Cornwall. One day, I hope to be back here full-time, but for now I love being able to share Burrow Cott with people who enjoy North Cornwall as much as I do.
I bought Burrow Cott after my dad passed away, so I could spend more time at home in Wadebridge - close to my mum, and to help care for my gran. It’s become a place rooted in family for me, and I hope it feels just as grounding and comforting for those who stay.
My husband and I share three dogs, fifty-odd chickens, and fourteen sheep. I loan a horse for a friend and spend as much time riding as I can. Animals have always been a big part of my life. Growing up, both my parents worked NHS shifts, so I spent most school holidays with my wonderful child-minder, Karen, who still lives in St Breock. Many of my happiest childhood memories were made in this village. Karen still pops round with old photos of me climbing hay bails or clutching some combination of chickens, dogs or ponies - and her current flock of chickens are descended from mine in Kent, you may well hear them cock-a-doodle-doodling during your stay.
I’m passionate about good food and love curating the recommendations you’ll find here. I hope they help you make the most of your time in North Cornwall. And if you ever need help planning your trip or want more local tips, I’m always happy to help.
