The best
Pasty in Cornwall

So good, it deserves its own page.

Malcolm Barnecutts.

Lovingly known by locals as “Malcy B’s,” Malcolm Barnecutt’s has fuelled North Cornwall for generations - a dependable, hearty lunch whenever it’s needed. When I worked in a surf shop in Wadebridge as a teenager, Malcy B’s was a frequent (and very welcome) lunch break staple. Their empire has grown over the years, with outposts across North Cornwall and three shops in Wadebridge alone. The closest one to Burrow Cott is just a short walk across the fields.

 FAQs

  • Steak. Always. You’ll hear the standard local order of “Medium Steak Please my ‘ansum!'“

  • Hot or cold - both completely acceptable. No cutlery. Hold it in your hands and eat from the top down. Never, ever eat it with gravy. Or ketchup.

  • The crimp served as a handle. Miners ate the pasty with dirty, arsenic-covered hands and discarded the crimp afterwards. Today we eat the whole thing - the crimp is some people’s favourite bit.

  • Some do - they probably shouldn’t!
